Generative art programs are the shiny object in everyone’s view right now and are capable of creating some amazing art. Still, it’s only a tool and one of many available to a designer, second to the brain and the hands. And despite the beautiful work being generated by the likes of MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, Dall-e, and more, there are still things the AI struggles with. I find it best to frame it as only a tool – which is, in turn only as good as hands in which it comes to rest. Granted, a powerful one and when combined with well crafted prompts, storytelling and assisting the AI.
Whether it’s or any other generative programs, calling yourself a designer using these alone is akin to calling yourself a chef because you can operate an microwave.
